This may be controversial… but it honestly may not. I don’t think I’ve spoken to anyone who have been to both Ocean City and Bethany Beach and prefers Ocean City. However, I haven’t spoken to everyone so my sample size may be too small and biased. (Ahh… this brings me back to grad school).

So what’s the difference? Bethany Beach, from my experience was less chaotic and hectic. It wasn’t as loud or “bussing” as they say and it was just peaceful! There weren’t that many people on the beach and while it was family friendly, it seemed well put-together and just more relaxing.

If that’s not relaxing, I don’t know it is!

Okay… maybe a cruise to the Bahamas… but seriously!

Like any beach, they did have seagulls but they didn’t really bother us too much. I will say that the beach, or at least the location where we were did not capture the sunset- it would’ve captured the sunrise but none of us cared THAT much.

Parking was on the street and not too far from the beach either which was a plus. There was a water spigot close to the entrance to the beach to get rid of any sand etc. that may have gotten on your feet which was definitely a plus, especially since we were carpooling and I didn’t want to get sand in my friend’s SUV!

As much as I like traveling with friends, I think one of the downsides of it is not being able to do what I want to do. It’s not that I didn’t have fun- I did! But I think I would’ve enjoyed exploring the boardwalk, Bethany Beach, etc. more. But of course it is nice to have company and to split the load with others deciding plans, which I think is a big reason I still go with friends. I don’t know- what’s your take? Do you prefer going with friends or solo when you travel? And I guess to say, driving 2-4 hours isn’t really “travel-travel.”

Do I recommend Bethany Beach?

Yes! I think from what I’ve seen, I had no complaints. It’s hard to not recommend a beach, I feel like you would have had to have a REALLY poor experience to say- I went to this beach and I didn’t like it and don’t recommend it to anyone. We found a parking place pretty quickly- and it is metered parking, but if I were to complain about something, I would say that we were lucky in finding parking and that may not be your experience…
