I think I actually heard about this one from Facebook reels, although it could’ve been another platform. I thought it was the cutest thing!

The building itself sticks out like a sore thumb, but not in a bad- in a way of- you can’t miss it! There are several places to park and I was able to find a place not too far away from where I needed to.

When I went there, it was a lot larger than I had imagined and there were a lot of nooks and crannies of this building, they also had an upstairs balcony looking over the main floor. There was a longer wait, although I did decide to come during Lunch time so perhaps that was my mistake. The hours of the cafe are pretty limited, or at least when- 8:30-3pm on weekdays and 8:30-5pm on weekends.

They had bookshelves, a chess table among other cute little objects around the room. I would say it has an open floor plan and the baristas are on a sort of platform if you will. It’s very child friendly and has puppets in the front near where you order.

They have a pretty good selection of food and drinks, but it’s worth noting that the menus are located at the front, instead of on a wall or behind the baristas like many other coffee stores will have. After you order, the baristas will actually bring you your food, which I thought was a nice touch, although that feels like a lot of work for them considering there are really people all over- like at the balcony which is on the opposite side of where the drinks/food are made.

I got a quiche with salad and a latte, the food was delicious and made well from what I could tell.

The location has free wi-fi which is helpful for those wanting to get some work done. I personally had not brought my computer here. Mostly I saw young adults and families here. The location is also close to the C & O Canal which I went to after my stay here.

Do I recommend Beans in Belfry?

Upon looking at Google reviews, the biggest complaint was not having what people wanted in stock and I recall the woman in front me wanted something they didn’t have; I wasn’t close enough to hear what that was though. I do think they need more employees given the amount of customers that came in, at least when I was there. There were maybe 3 or so employees which may be okay for a Starbucks, but not a cafe this size with needing to also deliver items. The barista was friendly, but said that he had to stay later because of call-outs. So perhaps it was just an off day?

Either way, I was not in a rush to get my food and leave and overall a pleasant experience for me. I think my favorite part were definitely the stained glass windows and general ambience of the place.

So do I recommend this place? Overall, yes- with the notion that I would go at a time where you have more time in the day (you’re not rushed) and if you have one specific food or drink item that if they don’t have it, you’ll find it to be an overall bad experience- perhaps try and be more flexible or just don’t risk it? (However, the wait for me really just could’ve been due to call outs that specific day).
