I think if there were three things that I LOVE it would be exploring nature, food and traveling…
I think there’s a level of serenity, peacefulness with just walking down a trail filled with greenery, animals and water.
Once you arrive, there is ample parking and most people were either on foot or cycling; there were a lot more cyclist than I was expecting actually. The parking lot is kind of in the middle of the trail so you can either go up the hill left, or right. The lot is right past the train track and was a little tricky for me to find at first, but once you find it- you can’t miss it! There is a portable potty in the lot which was well kept, or at least I thought so, in relation to others I have seen in my day. There is also a quaint little picnic area next to the parking lot.

You are able to see the canal from the parking lot, but after you go on the trail, you’re really not close enough to see the water anymore. There is a pond? Creek? Swamp? next to the trail which is visible and contains various animals from birds to reptiles- but it’s definitely not clear water at all.

I don’t know if you can see, but there are actually two turtles in the above image, can you spot them both?
The trail is pretty well kept and there is a campsite if you walk far along enough. (Which also has a water view).

I walked pretty far I would say and there are a lot of little nuggets that I thought were pretty interesting. Whether this be trains, logs, flowers, or anything in between. I’m one of those people who just enjoy putting in my airpods, listening to music or a Podcast and taking in the nature. (Or trains). I find it to be grounding and peaceful, especially when I’m able to hear the songs the birds make.

I feel like that log could be a good place for a selfie to be honest. There were also overgrown plants that looked almost like wilting willow trees which were fun to take pictures with, but keep in mind, they do block a fair bit of the path, so make sure you’re paying attention when you walk past it as not to bump into or scare anyone in the process.
There was a man jogging and he scared me haha! He wasn’t doing anything, it was just the trail was so quiet I wasn’t expecting anyone to be on the other side of the overgrown shrubbery.
Oh! BTW if you’re in the area, you might as well check out Beans in Belfry, a cafe located in a century-old restored church, because why not! Find my blog review with information and hours here.
Do I recommend the C & O Canal in Brunswick?
I do. I feel like I would have to have a pretty horrid experience to say I don’t recommend a walking nature path. I don’t what would have to happen to me where I would say “No! It’s terrible, don’t do this,” but either way, this was not that experience! Again, it was quiet and peaceful. I would probably not recommend it when it’s summertime or extremely hot outdoors but I didn’t have a problem with it. (I also walked this path earlier in the year than the date of this posting- probably around May or so).
