This may be a little of a belated post, but I couldn’t pass it up!
Last year (I know, I know!) I had visited Tatte’s Bakery in Bethesda. I was meeting up with someone to network and I had actually never been to Tatte’s, despite having worked just down the street a few years earlier- crazy, huh?
While I do love exploring, trying new places, new foods, etc. I often find that when I’m working at my day job, it’s very much of a- wake up, go to work, come home type of deal. I’m not super interested in staying in the area after work. Maybe it’s just me? I don’t know!
Anyways, I suppose this post isn’t about my personal work habits but about Tatte’s! Tatte’s is a cute, classy bakery and cafe. I find many places will have the counter on one of the walls of the building, but Tatte’s is different and you will order right in the middle!

Tables and seating are on the edge, giving you and often nice view to the outside world- which I think depending on what kind of person you are can be such a refreshing and aesthetic experience, or an awkward “ahh, random people can see me eat” type of feeling. Thankfully, for those people- there are some indoor seating away from the windows.
Me, personally? I thought the windows were great!
Tatte’s bakery and cafe is homemade and has a range of drinks, pastries, breads, quiches and everything in between.

For me, I had a quiche and salad. It’s interesting, actually because while I do like quiches, they’re not usually (I thought) my go-to, but out of probably maybe five cafes, and likely only two that actually sold them- I got a quiche! A few months ago, I went to Beans and Belfry, in New Brunswick, which is a cafe that has been renovated from a church and guess what I got? (Drumroll, please!) A quiche haha!

Anyways, back to Tatte’s; the quiche was flavorful, moist and absolutely delicious! I would definitely go here again if I was in the area.
I think the con I have to Tatte’s at this location (they have 51 location, mostly in Massachusetts at 28 locations, with more coming soon) is the parking. There is no parking lot or anything to that degree. I don’t fault Tatte’s, but rather this area in Bethesda feels more like DC to me. I’s hectic, street, metered parallel-parking if you can find it and last time I went, there were a few homeless people on my path. One came up to me (a few blocks down) and asked for money, another asked but stayed sitting on the curb (across from Tatte’s).
NOW! Before you come for me, I have no problem with the homeless. I could do a whole blog post on how frustrated I am with the system, how hard it is to find a home, have the resources, etc. after being homeless, how much we don’t really help as much as we say we do and how we rarely think about the circumstances leading to people losing housing, because no one wants this, no one asks for this and it’s usually a sad story about misfortune, pain, desperate attempts to drown out said pain, lack of resources, heartbreak or a combination of them all, to get someone in a place like this. HOWEVER, I shared that to help illustrate the general neighborhood it’s in. It’s not like Potomac (the wealthy and rich neighborhoods) but it’s also not the ghetto. It’s just something to keep in mind.
I think if I knew it was so close to my former workplace, I would have spent a lot of time here- but given I live 30 minutes away, parking can be difficult, etc., I think that I would need a reason to go. If I have a reason? YES! Let’s do it!
Do I recommend Tatte’s Bakery & Cafe?
I do. I think the food was delicious, the drinks were exquisite, the atmosphere is peaceful, fun and definitely has the feel for a more upscale environment (it’s not like sitting in Dunkin Donuts! No beef with them though…) and a the service was great. Again, I think the parking can be tricky and like I said, I don’t know if I would go out of my way to head down here- but if I was meeting a friend around this area or generally was close and wanted something to snack on before heading home- absolutely. I can’t blame that on Tatte’s, though. If they were closer to home and had a parking lot, 100% would be one of my go-to cafes.
